VR Troopers
VR Troopers was a syndicated live-action superhero show from 1994 to 1996. The show capitalized on the early 1990s virtual reality craze and Power Rangers' popularity. The show merged early CGI and video effects with Japanese stock footage from Superhuman Machine Metalder, Dimensional Warrior Spielban, and Space Sheriff Shaider. This method was first utilized in anime series like Robotech and Voltron, but this was one of the first tokusatsu adaptations to use it. BVS International transferred VR Troopers to SCG Power Rangers on May 7, 2010. Saban's VR Troopers was the first "sister series" to Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers at the time. This was an Americanization of a Toei Company LTD. tokusatsu kids' show. The series was successful, albeit less so than Power Rangers. Unfortunately, the series' Japanese footage was quickly exhausted owing to extreme circumstances where many tokusatsu scenes were combined in one episode, so stock video had to be repeated multiple times. Similarly, Big Bad Beetleborgs did well but ended quickly owing to a lack of stock footage. Both were adapted from Metal Heroes in Japan. The show generated toys and a Sega Genesis and Game Gear video game.
