The X Factor
The X Factor is a British television music contest to discover new singing talent, contested by singers drawn out of auditions. The series has since aired a year from August/September through to December and began in September 2004. The series is produced by the Thames and Cowell's production company SYCOtv of FremantleMedia. It's broadcast on the ITV network in the Uk and also TV3 in Ireland. It's the originator of the The X Factor franchise that is international. The X Factor was first invented as a replacement for the exceptionally successful Pop Idol, that had been put on indefinite hiatus as a result of its second show, largely because Cowell, who had been a judge on Pop Idol, wished to launch a new series to which he owned the television rights. The perceived similarity between the two shows later became the subject of a dispute. The"X Factor" of the name refers to the undefinable"something" which makes for star quality.
The judging panel that is original was first Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh. The board was joined by dannii Minogue in series 4 years, and Cheryl Cole substituted Osbourne in string 5. After show 7, Cowell and Cole made to judge the American model of the series whilst Minogue abandoned the series as a result of responsibilities on the Got Talent of Australia. Kelly Rowland, Tulisa Contostavlos and Gary Barlow united Walsh on the panel for string 8, even though Rowland announced she would not go back for string 9 and has been substituted by Nicole Scherzinger. Osbourne later returned replacing Contostavlos. Since 2007, the series was presented by Dermot O'Leary, who substituted initial host Kate Thornton. The series is broken up into a set of phases, following a contestants out of auditions through to the grand finale. In front of simply the judges, contestants sang in the televised audition stage of the series. On a point in front of the judges and a live audience, auditionees sing from show 6 onwards. Successful auditionees proceed to"bootcamp" and to"judges' houses", at which judges narrow the acts inside their category to three or four acts into mentor to the concert events, where the people vote for their preferred acts after weekly live performances by the contestants.
