In 1983, private yacht seafarer Will Parker leads an American team financed by millionaire Morgan Weld to beat during the America's Mug race against an Australian crew. Determined to get the reward back, Will encourages Morgan to fund a speculative boat developed by his ex-girlfriend Kate's brand-new beloved, Joe Heisler. When the watercraft is completed, the Americans head to Australia to recover the cup.
