The Cannonball Run
A cross country road-race is loosely predicated on a real situation, the Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, organized by Brock Yates to protest the 55 mph speed limitation then in effect from the U.S.. The Cannonball has been named for Erwin G."Cannonball" Baker, who at the roaring 20's rode his motorcycle throughout the nation. Many of the personalities derive from ruses made by cannon ball racers within the years which the event had been run.
