Old Gringo
When faculty teacher Harriet Winslow goes to Mexico to show, she's kidnapped by Gen. Tomas Arroyo and his revolutionaries. A aging American, Ambrose"Old Gringo" Bierce also in Mexico, befriends Gen. Arroyo and matches Harriet. Bierce is wants to maintain his identity confidential so he could determine his or her own fate. Bierce tries to provoke the anger whenever possible in an endeavor to have himself killed avoiding suffering through his illness of the General though he likes Arroyo. Winslow is fascinated by both Arroyo and Bierce, and also the men are in turn. She becomes romantically involved with Arroyo. After Winslow learns of Bierce's true identity (a writer whose work she's adored and respected for decades ), she's singlemindedly determined to fulfill his dying wish. Written by E.W. DesMarais
