North West Mounted Police
In the 1880s, Texas Ranger Dusty Rivers ("Isn't that a contradiction in terms?" asks another character) travels to Canada in search of Jacques Corbeau, who is wanted for murder. He finds himself in the thick of the Riel Rebellion, a conflict between Métis (people of French and Native ancestry) and Natives over the establishment of a separate nation. Dusty develops feelings for nurse April Logan, whom Mountie Jim Brett also adores. April's brother has an affair with Courbeau's daughter Louvette, which causes friction throughout the rebel-Mountie skirmishes. Throughout it all, Dusty is adamant about relocating Corbeau to Texas (and April, too, if he can manage it.)
