Hurricane Streets

Marcus is a young man growing up on the mean streets of Manhattan. His father is no longer alive, and his mother is imprisoned for smuggling undocumented immigrants. He is being raised by his grandmother. He has four close friends who have a basement clubhouse where they shoplift and sell the merchandise to children. One is getting into the drug business. Marcus wants to get away from the city for a while and visit his family in New Mexico. He also meets Melena, a sweet 14-year-old girl who wishes to travel to Alaska; her father is not only protective, but also angry and uncommunicative. Marcus is pushed by the gang to start burglarizing and stealing cars. He simply wants to be outside in the fresh air. Is there anything that can possibly go wrong?
