Hurley
Hurley Haywood was composed, cool, and collected in the 1970s auto racing scene. Haywood, a five-time winner of 24 Hours of Daytona, three-time winner of Le Mans, and Trans-Am champion, was a Hollywood archetype: a breathtakingly gorgeous man raised in a good Midwestern family. However, Haywood was frequently overshadowed by his racing companion and tempestuous mentor, Peter Gregg — the Batman to his Robin — whose sudden death in 1980 rocked the sport to its core. However, Haywood had his own secrets. In spite of numerous interactions with women, including public appearances alongside Penthouse models, he remained evasive about his private life. Hurley shows a deeper understanding of Haywood's career and sexuality through the use of historical film and exclusive interviews with actor and fellow driver Patrick Dempsey, while addressing the question: Will motorsport ever be ready for openly LGBT racers?
