Lou Reed & John Cale: Songs for Drella
Songs for Drella is a concept album by Lou Reed and John Cale, who both used to be in The Velvet Underground. It is dedicated to the memory of Andy Warhol, who was their mentor and died suddenly in 1987. Drella was a name for Warhol made up by Warhol Superstar Ondine. It was a combination of Dracula and Cinderella and was used by Warhol's crowd. The song cycle focuses on Warhol's personal relationships and experiences. The songs roughly fall into three groups: Warhol's first-person perspective, which makes up most of the album, third-person accounts of events and affairs, and Reed and Cale's first-person comments on Warhol. The songs on the album are, to some extent, in order of when they were written.
