Good Morning
A lighthearted spin on the perennial theme of these struggles of relationships of director Yasujiro Ozu , decent Morning tells the story of two young boys who stop speaking in protest after their parents won't buy a tv set. Ozu weaves an abundance of subtle gags through a family portrait as rich as those of his films of his son protagonists. Shot in magnificent color and set in a suburb of Tokyo where house wives gossip about the neighbors' brand new automatic washer and unemployed husbands search for act like door-to-door salesmen, this charming humor refashions Ozu's own quiet classic I Was Born, But... to quietly satirize consumerism in post war Japan.
