Mission: Impossible
Bruce Geller conceived and initially produced the American television series Mission: Impossible. It details the missions of a group of secret government spies known as the Impossible Missions Force. Dan Briggs, portrayed by Steven Hill, leads the squad in the first season; Jim Phelps, portrayed by Peter Graves, takes over in subsequent years. The series is characterized by Briggs or Phelps getting instructions on a recording that self-destructs, followed by Lalo Schifrin's theme music. The sitcom aired on the CBS network from September 1966 to March 1973, then returned to television for two seasons on ABC between 1988 and 1990, with only Graves remaining in the cast. Subsequently, beginning in 1996, it spawned a blockbuster film franchise starring Tom Cruise.
